Septic tanks should be emptied regularly.

There is no hard and fast rule, but for a septic tank to work efficiently the sludge (solids) needs to be removed on a regular basis. The frequency of “de-sludging” will depend on size of the property and the number of occupants. However, most will require emptying at least once a year to maximise the available void.

Regular emptying and cleaning of the tank greatly reduces the risk of it overflowing or causing blockages in your sewage system. Our tanker with its powerful vacuum and onboard water supply can empty and wash septic tanks quickly. We will dispose of the sewage and even clean up any spillage if your tank has overflowed.

If your soakaway has become blocked we can use our high pressure jetting equipment to clear it leaving it working much more efficiently.

Cesspits

Cesspits are in essence a sealed tank which takes all of the property’s liquid effluent. Such effluent includes sink and bath waste in addition to sewage. Because these units are completely sealed (with the exception of the manhole), they will need to be emptied on a very frequent basis.

Cesspits are usually installed in preference to septic tanks because of ground conditions or to remove the potential of pollution.

Emptying Frequency
There is no easy answer to this question because emptying will depend upon size of tank, the size of the property and the number of occupants. Is the property used all year round and are appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers discharging to the tank?
